To Capture Smoke no. 2

A stitched reflection on the charcoaled ambience and smouldering aroma left by the smoke of a campfire. Impossible to hold, this is our crystalline capture of a whisp of smoke before it dissipates into nothingness.

This original piece was created by Maya Santoso and is arranged in the Asanoha pattern, which is often used in Japanese sashiko. This is the first tessellation for the Campfire Collection.

Botanical Studies: Silver Dollar
500.00

The Silver Dollar is a native gumtree which prefers the colder regions of Australia. Often seen in the windows and bouquets of florist shops, they are popular for floral art due to their silvery blue-green circular aesthetic. The Alpine koala population are also fond of these aromatic leaves…more as a snack though than home decoration.

This original was painted by Mark Rose as part of The Windfall Collection.

The Wishing Bear
250.00

His fur glistening with fallen stardust, he fishes for galactic salmon swimming upstream through the Aurora Borealis. This is the favourite past-time for this bear who otherwise spends his nights hanging people’s wishes upon stars. He catches them as they float from Earth during the twilight hours, swiping them with his giant furry paws and delicately attaching each onto their own glowing orbs. Here they remain fermenting, one wish per star, until they either pop, fizzing into the neverness of the universe or having fully ripened, drift down to become their author’s reality." - excerpt from A Casual Guide to Stargazing

The Single Scoop
250.00

"Observing the local ice-cream boy assemble our mint choc chip cones with deft and nonchalant confidence we left convinced he had undergone rigorous scoop training. This training involving spherical Fibonaccian calculations, not unlike the study undertaken by NASA space recruits.

As we licked our melting minty spheres we gave a brief thought to the Apollo space team who were deprived of the ‘Astronaut Ice-Cream’ specially invented for them. Sadly this freeze-dried treat was deemed too hazardous to be enjoyed in zero gravity, for fear its crumbly texture would lead to stray pieces lodging into the space ship’s controls causing sweet havoc on their missions to the moon." - excerpt from A Casual Guide to Stargazing

The Gum Leaf
250.00

"If no one can hear you scream in space then it may prove a good place to learn to play the gumleaf - especially if you are as tone deaf as we are. Played by the Aborigines, the gumleaf is classified as a wind instrument or to be specific an ‘aerophone’, where it was originally used to mimic the calls of native bird life.

Supposing we were to take up playing this fragrant leaf, we would probably be banished into space, left to orbit the earth (its exosphere making the perfect sound barrier) only allowed back when we were accomplished leafists to perform our botanical melodies on earth." - excerpt from A Casual Guide to Stargazing

Mt Fuji
500.00

The outline of a mountain summit in the stars could only be seen as Mount Fuji, the highest peak in the land of the rising sun. A place to follow the cherry tree trail as they blossom northward throughout the Japanese spring. To lie upon the carpet of fragile pink and white petals as they fall confetti-like in the breeze, their immense numbers paling in comparison to the observable stars in the sky. Like a star however, the sakura flowers share the same fate; falling at their greatest moment of beauty." - excerpt from A Casual Guide to Stargazing

The Black Forest
90.00

Stars fall lazily over a forest of slash pines. Out here is completely different to in there where pine needles blanket the forest floor. Moments spent gazing at the stars through the tree tops is a life away for today, though the memory of the canopy greeting the sky remains.

Snow Pounce
90.00

One could watch a Polar fox and its fluid ariel hunts on repeat. It starts with a curious look, the head tilts, the furriest of ears listening for a warm-bodied rustle beneath the snow. The body recoils then a perfect body arch and pounce through the air is executed, diving headfirst into the frozen earth to hopefully capture a lemming underneath the Artic snow.

Galaxia Dermochelyidae
90.00

There is a myth that never quite existed except in our imagination, dreamed over a campfire under a shimmering summer night sky. A tale of a cosmic turtle, scientific name 'Galaxia Dermochelyidae', that carries all the solar systems of our galaxy on its back. While some scientists theorise that our universe was created from a big bang, this myth says that we were created in a big shell. While other scientists theorize that the Milky Way will collide with our neighbouring galaxy Andromeda, this myth gives a plausible reason to imagine that our solar system's future is perched precariously upon the back of a very large turtle, paddling carefully into the depths of the universe - hopefully avoiding collisions with any other turtles.

Gipfel Study No.1 - Zugspitze
from 90.00

They say from the top of the Zugspitze, at the roof of Bavaria, with all of Germany at your feet, the clouds taste like weißbier (wheat beer) and the rocks like brezen (pretzels). Off the summit, the rocks taste like rocks and the beer flavoured clouds are far out of reach, but along the base of the mountain you can see the forests scarred by the tracks of relentless avalanches. The mountain was initially named the Zugspitze (Train Mountain) after those passage ways. Now however, a train drives up the side of the mountain and three cable cars allow access to a melting glacier.

Gipfel Study No.2 - Zugspitze von Eibsee
from 90.00

This study of the Zugspitze was made in the last moments of autumn as some of the season's first snow began to fall silently over a calm twilight blanketed Bavaria. Snowflakes gently landed on the surface of Eibsee, barely disturbing the clear waters. As the light faded, a snowstorm set in, shrouding the Zugspitze in a blanket of grey. This is a reminder of the how easily a European summer can become a distant memory.
