Eyes closed, I float upon each breath, slowly edging closer to sleep. Tiny little lights begin to spark into existence, small bursts of internal effervescence - these are a visual phenomena known as phosphenes, your personal light show. The world keeps spinning around me but right now, none of that matters. As my memories and thoughts vividly pass by, the phosphenes continue to dazzle atop them, permeating my imagination like static on a television screen. Eventually they stop, everything stops. I am in limbo, amidst an ultimate moment of fleeting clarity - but as soon as I realise, it’s already too late. I am fast asleep.
These paintings are my attempt to revisit that moment. A meditation on memory and immersion, the contrast of imagery and the abstract.
