The Umi Collection

A marine collection inspired by that creepy sensation when a stray strand of seaweed caresses your foot.

Our eyes follow the falling beams of sunlight as we peer over the rocky edge into the sea. In between the ebbs of ocean foam, we glimpse a marine world where seaweed dances eternally with the tide. This collection is our homage to the great blue with the Japanese word ‘umi’ translating to mean the sea or ocean. A place we often visit for solace when our world becomes full of angst, worry and feelings are a bit titchy. Nothing makes you more present than negotiating a set of waves which looked much smaller from the shore or calms you as you float beyond the breakers. That is until a swath of seaweed passes by tickling your skin and setting off wild imaginings of sea monsters, Jaws and sushi...except it's you that's wrapped in nori.

Nori

Sāfu

An indigo horizon glimmers, catching the sun's rays and fading into light blue waves as it falls, foaming over a white sandy shore.

The Sāfu range of vessels are made from a white, crisp and clean clay body. The glaze flows through a palette of ocean blues; from shallow shores of light blue to the darkest depths of open ocean blue.
